Gardiner-Paul E. Marsella, 83, of Gardiner, also known as Eddie, passed away on November 1, 2025 in his home.
Paul was born on June 27, 1942 to Emilio and Antonette (Ribicandria) Marsella in Lynn, Massachusetts. He grew up with his three siblings (Gary, John and Sylvia) and cherished the strong work ethic instilled in him by his father and the amazing Italian food made by his mother.
He served as a United States Marine fueling a passion for his country and commitment to self-reliance that defined a large part of his lifelong identity. After coming to Maine to hunt he fell in love with the land and his beloved wife, Jacqueline (Jackie). Together they built their own home and devoted their lives to their children (Holly and Heidi) and to their faith in God.
Paul was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, the American Legion, and a Eucharistic Minister. He retired from Bath Iron Works and had many talents as a carpenter, mechanic, master oil burner and more. He was known for his inventive and expressive ways of doing things. He loved gardening, being outdoors, fixing things and sharing his faith. He had a deep love and pride of his grandchildren (Robert, Regina, Benjamin and Samuel) and enjoyment in teaching them life’s lessons from his experiences. In his final years the moments that brought him the most happiness included: praying the rosary at night with his wife; spending time with his family, in particular enjoying ice cream; and going to the Gardiner Waterfront and finding peace along the Kennebec River.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Emilio and Antonette Marsella of Florida and his brothers Gary Marsella of West Gardiner, Maine and John Marsella of California. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jacqueline Marsella of Gardiner, Maine; his daughter Holly Harmon and partner Eric Wallace of Scarborough, Maine; his daughter Heidi Blythe and husband Jonathan Blythe of Bethesda, Maryland; his grandchildren, Robert Harmon of Scarborough, Maine, Regina Harmon and partner Jacob Mortimer of Vassalboro, Maine, Benjamin Blythe and Samuel Blythe both of Bethesda, Maryland; his sister, Sylvia Morse of Florida; and several dear nieces and nephews.
His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gardiner, Maine on November 8th, at 9 am. A graveside burial will immediately follow at the Litchfield Plains Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Togus, Me.
