Madeline Shields Tozier, 94, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, at Richmond Eldercare.
She was born on April 16, 1931, in Dresden, the daughter of William and Gladys Rittall. Over the years, Madeline worked at Etonic Shoe, Clarostat, and New Balance in Norridgewock.
Madeline filled her days with the things that brought her happiness. She loved to read, do puzzles and word searches, and rarely missed her favorite soap opera, Beyond the Gates. She also enjoyed watching old westerns and going for drives, which always brought her joy.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ivan Tozier; an infant son; her daughter, Bette Chapman; her sister, Barbara Millett; and her brother, Charles Rittall, along with his wife, Mildred Rittall.
She is survived by her sons, Gary Shields (Debbie) of Vassalboro and Weldon Shields (Julie) of Richmond; her daughters, Deb Bodge (Robert) of Richmond and Mary Carney (Jim) of Augusta; as well as 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 17, at 10am at Fairview Cemetery in Canaan, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Madeline's memory to the Umberhine Library.
