Leland S. Smith Jr.

Lee SmithLitchfield-Leland S. Smith, Jr., 56, of the Hallowell Rd., formerly of Richmond, passed away unexpectedly on June 14, 2025 in Oxford, doing what he loved to do... four wheeling.



He was born on March 29, 1969 in Brunswick the son of Leland and Vivian Thebeau Smith.

Lee lived in several places growing up including Richmond, Me., Palm Springs, Ca., Las Vegas, NV, and North Conway, NH. Graduating from Richmond High School in 1987.

Shortly after graduation Lee enlisted in the United States Navy, training in San Diego, Ca. where he learned the love of the sea. After training he went on to serve on the USS Mobile Bay in Jacksonville, Fl., and hitting many ports throughout the world. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in Japan in 1990.

Upon discharge Lee started a fishing career with Shafmaster Fishing and also served on the fishing vessel Jean McCausland, which he sailed through the Panama Canal to Alaska.  He retired in 2019 after 30 years at sea.

Lee enjoyed was 4 wheeling, going boating, playing poker and cribbage.

Lee was predeceased by his father Leland Smith Sr., grandparents Joseph and Frances Thebeau, and grandfather Leland Smith.  He is survived by his mother Vivian Thebeau Smith of Litchfield, brother Ronnie and wife Jody of Florida, sister Michelle Monahan and husband Tim of Litchfield, beloved grandmother Connie Smith of Richmond, aunts Debra Howe and husband Bob, Elaina Carter and husband Mark all of Richmond, Lori Demers and husband Lance of Florida, Susan Hermare of Randolph, Theresa Klitch of Lewiston, Gerry Spark and husband Jim of Texas, Paula Wentworth and husband Jim of South Gardiner, uncle Adam Thebeau and wife Patricia of Lisbon, many cousins, grand nieces, nephews and friends.  He'll be greatly missed by them all.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, July 12th at 2pm at Church of the Nazarene, 91 Alexander Reed Rd., Richmond.  A small gathering will take place at the church after the funeral services.  The service will be broad cast live on FaceBook.
