website RideoutCarl "Gramps" Rideout passed away on Saturday, April 26th, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Carl was born in Lewiston to W. Wallace Rideout and Mary A. Rideout.

He grew up in Bowdoin, Maine with his parents and his older sister, Bertha. Carl graduated from Lisbon High School in 1961. Carl was quick-witted and smart as a whip, as he continued his education at Boston College in 1962. After completing his first semester, he made his way back home to Bowdoin, he couldn’t stand being away from the love of his life, Betty. Carl and Betty were married in Brunswick on June 15, 1963. They had three children together. Their son, Scott and two daughters, Lisa and Leslie.

Carl was a jack of all trades. He was a hard worker and took pride in his work. Through the years he worked as a real skilled laborer, his favorite work was being a lumberjack in the woods, working, hauling, cutting wood and being in nature. Carl retired from the Town of Litchfield in 2008. Carl could spark up a conversation with just about anybody, but his favorite person in the world was always a dog. A dog whisperer at heart, all dogs were Carl’s best friend. He built a small cabin with his family on land up in Drew Plantation, Maine. This was Carl’s home away from home where he loved being the most. Many trips were made “upta camp” through the years. Carl always referred to camp as “God’s Country.” Carl leaves a legacy behind of hard work, family and loyalty.
