David Kendrick "Banjo" West
Richmond – David Kendrick West “Banjo”, passed away on August 24, 2024 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, surrounded by his siblings. He was born in Damariscotta, Maine on May 17, 1957 son of Louis K. West and Winifred E. Robshaw Reed.
He grew up in Wiscasset, spent many years in Bremen, Damariscotta and Waldoboro, and later settled in Richmond. He worked on the waters and shores of Maine as a Commercial Fisherman, Clam and Worm Digger. Once owning his own fishing boat that he proudly named the “Amy Jamie”. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved watching old western movies, Deadliest Catch, Wicked Tuna; reading Louis Amour, shooting pool, and playing cribbage. Banjo will be remembered for his friendly spirit, kind heart and positive attitude. His motto was, “Let’s have a shot and drink a couple beers!”
He is survived by Sisters Shelley E. Merrill of Richmond, Grace E. Wood and husband Bill Wood of Cadiz, Kentucky; Pam Teele of Waldoboro; and Brother Daniel C. Fowle of Gardiner; Aunts Margaret Brown, Genie Pease, June Derosier; Uncles Allen Craney, Ira Simmons and Raymond Simmons, and all of his beloved Nieces and Nephews - Amy, Jamie, Kim, Lauren, Sara, Hilary, Aaron, Matt, Jacob and Chris. Also, his lifelong friends Dave Morse and Jason Cray.
He was predeceased by his Father, Mother, Step Father Earl “Pop’ Reed, brothers, Joseph West and Nick West. Grandmother Grace E. Brown (Simmons), Aunt Janet Kaufmann, Uncles Hugh Craney, and Robert West.
A Celebration of Life will be held on his Birthday May 17, 2025 at Shelley Merrill’s house 6 Abby Lane, Richmond, Maine from noon until 5 pm
