Randolph- We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our mother, Barbara Seavey, who passed away on November 27, 2024, peacefully at home with her family by her side. Barbara M. Seavey was born in Boothbay, Harbor, Maine on September 7, 1937 to Nelson B. and Irene Timberlake Seavey. She attended schools in Boothbay Harbor, Bath, and on her tenth birthday moved to Gardiner, Maine. She always adored her older brother Tom, and took joy and pride in watching  him play sports. Barabra excelled in her schoolwork and love of learning. Barbara started working at the Gardiner Public Library in the 8th grade; she was proud of her work there, earning .90 a week, until she graduated. Her love of reading led her to graduate as valedictorian of the class of 1955 at Gardiner High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. 

                Barbara went to work for the State of Maine in 1955. She worked for the Department of Motor Vehicle for 16 years and the Maine Arts Commission for an additional 22 years. She retired in 1997 and for years proudly told her family of her 38 years, 7 months, and 1 day working for the State of Maine. Following her retirement, Barbara was employed part time for several years as an administrative assistant at Dyer Associates in Winthrop. 

                In addition to being proud of her employment, Barbara was also involved in several clubs and organizations over the years including Augusta Junior Women’s Club, Augusta Business and Professional Women’s Club, Snofest, Red Hat Society, and Lupine Ladies. 

                Some of Barbara’s favorite pastimes were traveling with friends, including cruising to Bermuda with the “secret six,” roaming the United States with her mother and beloved Aunt Glenys, cruising to Hawaii & Alaska with her friend,

Lorraine, trips to Disney, Mexico, Quebec, Nova Scotia, California, and numerous travels with her BFF, Fran. 

               As The Sound of Music would say, these are a few of her favorite things: reading, jigsaw puzzles, playing Scrabble, Sudoku, crosswords, ice cream, lighthouses, going out to eat with family and friends, trips to Boothbay and Ocean Point, collecting Santa Clauses, decorating for any holiday, and a Manhattan, straight up!

She would tell you her only reason for owning a television was to watch her beloved Red Sox; she was a lifetime fan, cheering proudly through the good years and the bad, and even celebrated her 80th birthday at Fenway with her children and grandchildren. 

The brightest light in Barbara’s life was always her family. She raised two children, Laurie & Rob, and eventually cherished memories with the generations to follow, who lovingly referred to her as “Nonnie.” She loved her four-generation day trips, and holiday gatherings filled with laughter and card games including 31 (for money). She seized every opportunity to visit the rocky shores of the Maine coast, and chase lighthouses all over the state. She always supported her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, whether it be in sports, dance, band or any of their endeavors. 

Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Nelson & Irene Seavey, brother Thomas Seavey, and very special Aunt Glenys. She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Hopkins & her husband, Bud, her son, Rob Evans, her grandchildren Hillary Wing and her husband, Donnie, Matt Hopkins, Nathan Evans, Jacob Evans, and her great granddaughters, Naurie & Laney. She also leaves behind four special cousins, Lynette, George, Martha, and Linda, her treasured nieces, Kate, Janet, Julie and nephew, John, and many dear friends. 

A special thank you to Hillary Steward, for caring for her in this last chapter of life. Also a thank you to Brenda Callahan who made numerous visits to comfort Barbara, as well as a wonderful team of Hospice workers, for their love and caring support through this difficult time. 

A service to remember Barbara will be held at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 108 Maple St. Farmingdale on Monday, December 9th @ 1PM.
