Richard "Rick" Emmons
Richard Alden Emmons Sr., 65, of Abbot, Maine, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born in Augusta, Maine, on October 31, 1958, Richard was predeceased by his parents, William and Lillian Emmons of Richmond, his brother William "Billy" Emmons, and his sister Carol Carver.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Sally A. Emmons; his son, Richard Emmons, and his wife, Kate, along with their children, William "Liam" and Ava, of Freeport; his daughter, Rebecca Pinkham, and her husband, Greg, and their son, Luke, of Bowdoin. Richard also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Sharon James of Dresden, his brothers, Ronald Emmons and his wife, Martha, of Richmond, Gary Emmons and his wife, Sandy, of Richmond, and Robert Emmons of Augusta, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Richard attended Richmond schools before enlisting in the United States Army in 1977, where he proudly served until his honorable discharge in 1980. He dedicated 31 years of service to the Richmond Fire Department, including nine years as fire chief. He also worked at Bath Iron Works in the tin shop for 30 years.
An avid outdoorsman, Richard found joy in snowmobiling with friends and family. He was an active member and trail groomer with the Four Winds Snowmobile Club and the Abbot Explorers ATV Club. He loved spending the warmer months riding his "buggy" (as he called any motorized vehicle, especially his four-wheeler) and looked forward to fishing and hunting trips. He delighted in telling stories of his many adventures with friends and family.
Richard was known for his daily phone conversations with his brothers Ron and Gary, as well as close friends Wayne Ellis and John Dain, sharing updates and keeping them connected. He also took great pride in his role as the unofficial "Mayor of Monson Junction," reporting local happenings to his friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Veteran Affairs (VA) medical teams in Rumford and Augusta for their care and support over the years.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 19th at 10:00 AM at Cotton Cemetery, 208 County Road, Richmond, ME 04357. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Four Winds Snowmobile Club in Guilford, ME or the Abbot Explorers ATV Club in Abbot, ME in his memory.
