September 4, 1930-July 2, 2024

With grace and dignity, Georgette M. Moffett passed peacefully just before dawn on July 2, 2024 at Seaside Healthcare in Portland.

Georgette was born to Odilas J. and Yvonne M. Menard and was raised in Brunswick, Maine.  She attended St. John’s Catholic School and Brunswick High School, graduating in 1948. On September 10, 1949, she married Eugene P. Plourde. They lived at the Menard family home on Dunning Street and later moved to a rambling farmhouse on River Road.

Georgette and Eugene divorced in 1972; they remained friends until his death in 2003.  In 1979, Georgette married Raymond ("Ray") H. Moffett, also of Brunswick.  Georgette and Ray split their time between Maine and Boynton Beach, Florida and enjoyed traveling across country, to Canada, and overseas.  Shortly after Ray died in 1997, Georgette moved to Connecticut and lived with her daughter, Doris, and her family.  In 2007, she returned to Brunswick, eventually residing at Pejepscot Terrace until January of this year.

Georgette cherished her family. She was devoted to her parents and, for a number of years, brought them to Florida to escape the Maine winters. Family sustained and uplifted her, and even through tough times, she kept them together with a combination of hard work and stubborn will.

She loved and excelled at her jobs, first at the original St. John‘s Credit Union; then, as secretary for the guidance department of Brunswick Junior High School; and finally, as Brunswick Town Clerk in the late 1970’s.  While in Florida, she worked as office manager at a large golf course/retirement community. Georgette was a charter member of the Brunswick Emblem Club where she served in a variety of capacities, culminating in her election as president.

Georgette found joy in the simple things in life: a spirited game of cards or cribbage; a well-played round of golf or a victory by her beloved Patriots; her good friends with whom she'd share many laughs or an occasional glass of white wine; family dinners, reunions, and sing-alongs; and her deep and unwavering faith.

Georgette was, at any given time, a seamstress, a gardener, a decorator, a cook, a chanteuse.  She designed and sewed christening robes, wedding dresses, and aprons.  She tended a large garden and taught her kids to cook for a crowd and bake everything from scratch.  She preserved fruits and memories, sang children’s songs and Tony Bennett standards, and opened her heart and her immaculate home to family and friends.  Georgette would often say that she loved her life and was content.  We will surely miss her in ours.

Georgette was pre-deceased by her parents, and by her brothers Gerard, George, and Gilbert; sisters-in-law Eileen (Brown) Menard and Valencia (Pinette) Menard; brother-in-law Norman Fraser; by her first child, Maynard Plourde; and by step-daughters Diane (Moffett) Heilig, and Judith (Moffett) Deal.

She is survived by her sister, Gloria Fraser, and sister-in-law Rita Menard; her children Doris Ash (and husband, Jim), Patrick, Diane, Kenneth (and wife Kathy), and Gilbert Plourde, and former daughter-in-law Ellen Gutekunst.  Also surviving are step-children Gregory Moffett (and wife, Janet), Ray Moffett (and wife Joan), Bonita Mohan, and several loving nieces and nephews.

Georgette was blessed to be called Memere and Punkin by her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were a source of her greatest joy. Grandchildren (and spouses) are: Lauren Mansour (Timothy), Tom Ash (Katherine), Keith Plourde (Crystal), Victor Plourde (Maria), Kasey Plourde, Nicholas Maglione (Holly), Emily Ferdinando (Alan), Katherine Moffett, Orion and Tierney Mohan, Kerry (Black) Lyons (Christopher), Thomas Ames Black, Pam (Deal) Farmer (Steve), and Gavin Deal.

Her great-grandchildren are: Barrett and Hunter Plourde; Madeline, Marigold, and Brighton Mansour; Desmond and Coen Ash; Lucia and Owen Plourde; Asher Maglione; Jameson and Ella Ferdinando.  Georgette’s light and joie de vivre live on in them all.

Georgette's family sincerely appreciates the excellent care she received from  Beacon Hospice (Amedisys Foundation) and Seaside Healthcare. Donations in Georgette’s name may be made to Amedisys Foundation, 52 Atlantic Place, South Portland, ME 04106. Or, go to www.amedisys.com/donate.

Private burial and a celebration of life will be held later in September.
