Rita G. Hanning

Heaven’s gates are open wide and waiting.  Rita passed away at age 92 on May 13, 2024 in her home surrounded by her loving family and friends.  She was born January 9, 1932 in Harmony Maine the daughter of Aurore Fournier Michaud.  Rita was a long-time resident of Richmond before moving to Randolph.

Rita worked for Etonic Shoe Company in Richmond but her true joy was caring for children in her home.  Her love and guidance changed the lives of many and they have always remained part of her family.  She enjoyed cooking, cleaning, music, and dancing.  If there were a party, everyone knew she would be front and center.  It was quite a sight to watch Rita and her husband Bob float their way across the dance floor.  She loved sharing her home with family and friends.  If you spent time there your belly, heart and soul would be full when you left.  Rita’s true passion was eating.  She loved every restaurant she ever ate at.  She was a “yummy” vocal eater.  We always share laughter over this.  There was never a time when she wasn’t dressed to perfection.  She could even wear a dragonfly sun catcher as a necklace and with that familiar twinkle in her eye, she would make you think it was intentional.

Rita enjoyed her “QUEEN” treatment when she was whisked away to her favorite family getaway at a beautiful ocean view cottage in Edgecomb.  If you were near her, you shared love and laughter.

Rita was predeceased by her nine siblings, her first husband Howard Chapman of Dresden, Step daughter Jody Hallman of Bath.  Grandson Robert Stevens of Machias, Grandson Nicholas Flibbert of Waterville, Sons-in-Law Robert LaChance of Augusta and Robert A. Stevens of Machias.  She is survived by her loving current husband of 52 years, Robert Hanning of Randolph.  Daughter Claudia LaChance of Augusta, Daughter Cindy Stevens of Augusta, Step Son Scot Hanning of Camden, Son Mark Chapman and wife Ann of Randolph, Step Son Ricky  Hanning of Fayette, Daughter Tammy Eaton and husband Glen of Augusta, Daughter Sonya Malloy and husband Paul of Kentucky, Granddaughter Lisa Lessard and husband Scott of Augusta, Granddaughter Lori LaChance of Chelsea, Grandson John Huntington and wife Heidi of Georgia,  Granddaughter Shannon Reece and husband Michael of Machias,  Grandson Kyle Chapman of Litchfield, Granddaughter Stacy Chapman and partner Bruce Staples of Somerville, Grandson Daniel Malloy of Kentucky, Granddaughter Jacqueline Rose Malloy of Arkansas, Grandson Philip Malloy of Kentucky, as well as numerous Great Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to extend a very warm thank you to the wonderful staff at Beacon Hospice who gave Rita so much care and love in her final days.
