Waterville-Susan M. Brookes, 83, died on January 2, 2020 at Lakewood Nursing Home, Waterville.

She was born on May 4, 1936 in Newton, Massachusetts the daughter of Lawrence and Grace McGuffin.

Susan graduated from Bigelow High School in Newton, Massachusetts.  She later went on to get her bachelors degree from the University of Maine, where she met and married her husband of 60 years Miles T. Brookes.  Susan also taught physical education at Winslow High School while coaching basketball and field hockey.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing bingo and skipbo. Susan was also a member of the Eastern Star.  She particularly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Susan was predeceased by her parents, son Mark Spencer Brookes HM2 US Navy, sisters Marianne Lloyd, Jeannie Willis and nephew Jackson Lloyd.   She is survived by her sons Miles (Mack) Brookes of Gardiner, David Brookes of Ohio, daughter Heather Brookes of Ohio, grandchildren Mark Brookes and wife Amy of Farmingdale, Miles Christopher Brookes and wife Heather of Alaska, Matthew Brookes and wife Jamie of Lisbon, Guinevere Hartley of Japan, Gabrielle Gowell of Ohio, Jonathan Gowell of Texas and Seamus Brookes of Ohio. Great grandchildren Mason Brookes, Emma Knight, Elsie and Eagan Brookes, Theodore and Benjamin Brookes, Jordan and Charlotte Brookes, Leah and Lydia.

A Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 10th at 11am at the funeral home.  Burial will take place in the spring at Hillside Cemetery, Gorham.

The family would like to the staff at Lakewood Nursing Home for all her great care.
