Bowdoinham- Albert D. Acker, 89, passed peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2019 at his home. He was born in Alfred, Maine on September 3rd, 1929, the son of Henry and Mary Acker. He graduated from Sanford High School and retired from the U.S Navy VP 21 after 22 years with the rank of Senior Chief Aviation Mate. He was a member of the P2 and P3 Neptune groups. He was a Veteran of both the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam war. Following retirement, he served as Treasurer/Manager of the Bowdoinham Federal Credit Union for 25 years and as Selectman of Bowdoinham for 7 years. He also attended night classes and graduated from New Hampshire College in 1979 with a degree in Business.

Al Acker was a proud member of the Springvale Masonic Lodge #190 for 67 years; an Honorary member of Village Masonic Lodge #26 of Bowdoinham; a member of Post 132 American Legion of Richmond, ME, Fleet Reserve Association; and was one of the founding members of the Snowbirds Snowmobile Club out of Bowdoinham.

 Along with his parents, Al just in his early 20’s, built a cabin in Acton, ME which is beloved by several generations of family and friends. He loved hunting and fishing and doting on his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was best known for his quick wit; his irreverent sense of humor; his ability to sew clothes without patterns; his cooking skills; his strong political views and his “Al-oquisms” (eye roll worthy pearls of wisdom).

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Beverly Allen Acker; his daughter-in-law Barbara Acker of Bowdoinham, ME; his children Edward of Largo, FL.; Kenneth of Scarborough, ME.; Douglas (and Laurie) of Gardnerville, NV; Patricia (and David) Acker-Bailey of Mechanicsburg, PA.;  7 grandchildren (Allen Acker, Jesse Bailey, Carey Bailey Myers, Zachary Acker, Kristin Acker, Ben Acker and Megan Acker) and 6 great grandchildren (Nella Acker, Maeve Acker, Henry Acker, Harper Myers IV, Lily and Jade and several step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren. In addition, he leaves dear family friends Dari, Bruce and Jade Hurley.

Al also leaves behind his brother Howard (and Marcia) Acker of Acton, ME and New Port Richey, FL and his brother-in-law Clifford Randall of Shapleigh, ME.

He is predeceased by his eldest son David (of Bowdoinham), his parents and two sisters Marjorie Acker Lawrence and Harriet Acker Randall.

Burial will be at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale, ME. at the convenience of the family.

A public Celebration of Life will be held at the Kincer Funeral Home at 130 Pleasant St. Richmond, ME on March 22nd from 4:30-7:30 with a short memorial at 7pm.
