Barbara P. Mount
Barbara Penney Mount, Age 76, passed on to become the brightest star in the sky, and in our hearts, Tuesday, September 25th, 2018 in Newburyport, Massachusetts. After living with her daughter and granddaughter for a year, Barbara spent this last year in the loving care of Country Center for Health and Rehabilitation. Barbara’s love of her family and friends kept her fighting hard against her battle against Myasthenia Gravis and Parkinson’s.
Barbara was born in Belfast, May 9th 1942. She graduated from Unifree High School in 1960 and went on to Thomas College to obtain a secretarial certificate. She worked for the State of Maine in the Dept. of Human Services, Rehabilitation and Dept. of Civil Defense. She was a passionate volunteer with the Augusta “Friends” of the Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers for 40 years and worked as a receptionist for 20 years. Barbara enjoyed playing volleyball, softball and loved local theater. Raised as a Methodist, Barbara spent her adult life as a Baptist sitting alongside her Mom in Oakland.
Barbara is reunited with who she referred to as the most gentle man, the love of her life, her husband Roland Mount, her mother Helen Smith Penney and father Merle Penney, and her beloved brother Richard Penney. She is survived by her two daughters, Tracey M. Gernenz and husband Robert and Kelly Mount, loving sisters, Marlene Hinkley, Beverly Preble and Jackie Penney. Her pride and joy – her grandchildren, Tara Perez and husband Jose and their children, Ariana, Cara Mia and Maximo, David Mount and wife, Jessica, Landyn Mount, David Porter, Rachel Fecteau, Jonathan Bates, Charlie Porter, Sarah Bahs, Tim Porter, Suzanne Grace, Bill Bates, their spouses, and her beloved great-grandchildren.
Barbara so very much cherished her lifelong friends from primary school to every friend she has been blessed to share her life with along the way. All were so very important to her, and a lifeline throughout her every day.
