David A. Acker
Bowdoinham-David A. Acker, 65, passed peacefully Wednesday, August 1, 2018 with the love of his life, wife Barbara of 42 years, by his side as she always was.
David was born October 7, 1952 in Sanford, Maine the son of Albert and Beverly Acker.
David was an elementary school student in the Coombs School in Bowdoinham and Graduated from Brunswick High School in 1970. He served his country as an Aviation Radioman for 4 years in the United States Navy. David and Barbara were married on Valentine’s Day 1976.
David worked at Bath Iron works as an electrician for 23 years before starting Ackers Acres Disc Golf in 2002.
David loved his little piece of heaven on Dingley Road and Disc Golf was a perfect way for him to share it with the public. He treated every player as if they were a guest in his home. His courses are renowned in the Disc Golf Community, but not as much as his kindness, generosity and his ability to make everyone he spoke to feel special.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Acker of Bowdoinham, son Allen Acker and his wife Kate, 3 grandchildren he loved so much Nella, Maeve and Henry Acker of Bowdoinham, parents Albert D. Acker and Beverly F. Acker of Bowdoinham, sister Patricia Acker-Bailey and her husband David of Mechanicsburg, Pa., brothers Edward Acker of South Lake Tahoe, Nevada, Kenneth Acker of Scarborough, Maine and Douglas Acker and his wife Laurie of Gardnerville, Nevada. He is also survived by Barbara’s siblings Charles, Tony, Louise, Sara, Cathy and Mary who were an important part of his life along with their spouses, significant others, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who were loved by him.
There will be a Celebration of life Saturday, September 1st at 11am at Ackers Acres Disc Golf with lunch to follow. Thank you all for your Love and Support.
He will be immensely missed by many, many people.
