Bowdoin, ME Michael “Rocky” Harmon, 51, drifted peacefully away to knock on Heaven’s Door on March 9, 2018. He was surrounded by his family at Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick at the time of his passing.

Michael was born on July 22, 1966, the third of four children, to Vernon “Joe” Harmon and Shirley Young Harmon. He went to Bowdoin schools, and he graduated in 1984 from Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham.

In 1987 he married Kimberly Jenkins and together they raised four children, Cassandra Harmon Hall, Mitchell Harmon, Nicholas Harmon, and Natasha Harmon. These children have given their father six grandchildren, Jeremy, Hannah, Kenzie, Hunter, Halleigh, and Sophia. Michael loved his family more than anything in this world, they were his greatest accomplishment. When his kids were younger you would always find him at their sporting events, you actually couldn’t miss him as he was one of those dad’s screaming calls and plays from the sidelines. He has been fortunate to be able to do that at his grandchildren’s games as well, recently being thrilled to join Jeremy on a bus trip with his wrestling team.

Michael has always been a family man. He was very protective of his mother after his father died in 2013. He had a strong bond with his sister Melodie, one that stemmed from losing their brother Mark when they were very young. He had a special relationship with his kid sister Melissa. His brother-in-law Stan was one of his best friends. He loved all his nieces and nephews. He never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him.

Michael worked many places over his career. He was a manager at Pine Tree Waste for over 15 years, he worked as a caregiver in local group homes, and he was an on and off team player for Amato’s since his early 20s.

Anyone who knew Michael knew he had a heart of gold. He cared about everyone and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. In school he was the class clown and he never lost that ability to make people laugh. It was one of his strongest traits. He loved sports and would often be found watching the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, and NASCAR. He even got his mother to watch these with him in recent years, even though she admittedly had no idea what was happening in the game. He enjoyed spending time with his best friends from high school, Mook, Holly, John, Mike & Laurie, Ewok & Kim, and many more…lifelong friends in a crazy busy world who still made time to get together.

Michael loved The Three Stooges and would watch the same episodes over and over and over and still find them just as funny as the first time. He found peace spending time in his father’s garage watching old movies and jamming to KISS. He recently got to make a check on his bucket list when he saw Elton John perform live in Portland. It was “one of the best nights of his life”. You have gone but we will never forget you Michael, Dad, Papa, Rocky …you lived your life like a candle in the wind and your candle burned out long before your legend ever will.

Michael was pre-deceased by his father, his brother Mark, and his brother-in-law John Vear.

He is survived by his mother Shirley, his children Cassandra Harmon Hall and husband Cameron, Mitchell Harmon and his wife Adrienne, Nicholas Harmon, and Natasha Harmon, his grandchildren, Jeremy, Hannah, Kenzie, Hunter, Halleigh, and Sophia, his sister Melodie Burnham and brother-in-law Stan, his sister Melissa Vear, his children’s mother Kimberly Berry and husband Tim, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visiting hours will be March 16, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. All services will be at Kincer Funeral Home, Pleasant Street, Richmond, ME. A spring burial will be scheduled at the West Bowdoin Cemetery when weather permits.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CHANS Hospice or Maine Special Olympics.
