Stanley E. Wheeler

Stanley Wheeler PictureBOWDOIN - Stanley Ervin Wheeler, 72, died peacefully at his home in Bowdoin, Maine, on February 5, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

He was born on March 2, 1945 in Lisbon Falls to Ervin Alfred Wheeler and June Evelyn (Wagg) Wheeler, the second of four children.  He married Miriam Agnes (Bard) on June 17, 1967, and had three children.

He graduated in 1963 as Valedictorian of the Vocational program at Lisbon High School.  He served in the National Guard, completed the Apprenticeship Program as a machinist at Hyde Windlass, and worked at Bath Iron Works as a machinist.  Beginning in 1972, Stanley owned and operated the Wheeler Lumber Company, and in 1979, he started Wheeler Tractor Repair where he repaired farm and logging equipment until his retirement.

Stanley enjoyed spending time with his family at his camp on Little Purgatory Pond, riding with his wife on their motorcycle, and walking in the woods with his dog.  He was the sixth generation to live on the family farm, spending much of his time restoring and improving the home, barn and fields.  He was a private pilot, inventor and a jack of all trades.

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Miriam Agnes Wheeler, his mother, June Wheeler, his daughter, Sarah and her husband Rick Delaney of Livermore, and sons Reuben and his wife, Angela, and Lincoln and his wife Stacey, all of Bowdoin, as well as ten grandchildren:  Amber, Rylee and Drew Delaney, Gideon, Caroline, Mary and Isaac Wheeler, and Clayton, Tanner and Sawyer Wheeler.  Also, survived by his sisters, Lila Bulick, and Doris and her husband, Al Gagne, all of Bowdoin, and brother-in-law Leo Pinard of Sabattus, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his father, Ervin, his sister, Marion Pinard of Sabattus, and brother-in-law Paul Bulick of Bowdoin.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10 AM at the West Bowdoin Baptist Church in Bowdoin, Maine followed by a Celebration of Life.  In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the West Bowdoin Baptist Church, 54 West Road, Bowdoin, Maine 04287.
