Thelma McWey
Brunswick-Thelma Elizabeth (Keirstead) McWey age 89 died unexpectedly May 6th 2016 at Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick, Maine. She was born in Presque Isle April 25th 1927, the daughter of H. Earl and Myrtle Eva (Beales) Keirstead.
Thelma (Aunt Timmy) grew up in Presque Isle and graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1944. She worked as a waitress in Presque Isle and liked to tell everyone that she had waited on Clark Gable. She moved to Chicago in 1957 with her brother Ralph and his wife Marian. She loved the city and stayed there after they returned to Maine. She worked as a waitress in several large restaurants until her retirement in 2001. She then returned to Maine to live with her niece Jan. In 2011 she moved to assisted living at the Skolfield House in Brunswick which later became Coastal Shores. Needing more care she moved to Horizons in March of this year. She made many friends with the staff and residents but her favorite was; Amanda's dog "Bertie"
She loved to gamble, attend sporting events and the horse races. She also had a great love of animals.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters, Janet, Joyce, and Althea and her brother Ralph.
She is survived by her aunt Ann (Keirstead) Smith of Leominster, Ma, her niece Jan (Keirstead) McGloin and her husband Paul of Dresden, her great nephew Chase McGloin of Chelsea , her beloved dog Page, and her friends ,staff, and Bertie at Coastal shores.
We would like to thank the staff at Coastal Shores and Horizons for the wonderful care she received. She loved to tell everyone "Those girls are so good to me!"
There will be a memorial service for the residents of Coastal Shores on Tuesday May 17th at 2:00pm.
