stevensRICHMOND - Carol Lee (Garland, Smith) Stevens, age 65 passed away peacefully Thursday, December 10th, after a 5 year battle with breast cancer.

She was born September 8th, 1950 in Gardiner Maine. She was the daughter of Beverly (Plummer) Garland and Everett Garland Jr. She was raised in Gardiner and graduated Gardiner Area High School in 1968. After high school she married Stephen M. Smith and worked at Manson and Church Pharmacy as a Pharmacist Technician. She later found employment at the Veterans Administration in Togus, Maine, where should would retire as Chief Accountant after a 30 year career. In 1995, Carol re-married her soul mate, Eric Wade Stevens. Carol is predeceased by her Father Everett Garland Jr., sister Jane (Garland) Graham, and brother Everett "Tuggy" Garland. She is survived her loving husband Eric Wade Stevens of Richmond, Me, Mother Beverley (Plummer) Garland of Blanchard Me., Mother in law Sylvia (Martin, Smith) Mersereau of Hallowell, Mother in law Nancy Stevens, Father in Law Prince Stevens of Gardiner, Brother in Law Charles (Sparky) Graham of Greenville, Son Everett Scott Smith and Wife Kathleen Grady Smith of Arizona, Stepson Ethan Stevens and Wife Amanda of Chelsea, Stepson Ivan Stevens and wife Amy of Augusta, Grandchildren Katelyn Smith, Everett Grady Smith, Cameron Stevens, Peyton Stevens, Brandon Stevens, Isaac and her special nieces Amanda Simko (children Samuel and Christopher), and Julie Graham (child Caroline).Carol appreciated her time as a member of the Gardiner Area Tennis Association and Kennebec Heights Golf Club. She was passionate for outdoor activities such as 4 wheeling at her camp in Blanchard, Me, boating down the Kennebec River, cross country skiing, swimming in the ocean and ice skating. Her favorite annual activity was enjoying a long skate down Cold Stream when the first ice would set. Carol would convince as many friends as possible to join her in the winter time excursion. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren having Teddy Bear Tea Parties, camping, playing cards, board games, and leading discovery nature hikes.She will be remembered for her generosity and her desire to make others happy. She will be missed every day and never forgotten.
