Myron "Sonny" L. Newton

DRESDEN – Myron (Sonny) L. Newton, 74, of Dresden passed away on Saturday November 21, 2015 in Augusta with his wife by his side. He was born on July 13, 1941 in W. Gardiner, Maine, the son of Myron J. and Amy (Lambert) Newton.

Sonny was raised in the Brunswick area. During his lifetime he worked as a carpenter, a marine worm digger, and also owned and operated Sonny’s Smelt Camps. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, gold prospecting, and camping. He especially enjoyed his May fishing trips with his buddies and family.

Sonny is predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Norman and Benny, and a sister, Dolly.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda (Miller) Newton of Dresden; son, Scott Newton and wife Tammie of W. Gardiner and their children Scott and Tasha; daughter, Kelly Clark and husband Tom of Richmond and their children Jessie, Eric, Michael, and Megan; son, Thomas Newton and his wife Sue of W. Gardiner and their children Shawnna and Ryan; daughter, Cheryl Rhoten and husband Roger of Dresden and their daughter Courtney; daughter, Tammy Hodgkins of Jefferson and her children Brent and Aaron; and daughter, Bethany Fossett of Dresden. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Matison, Jacoby, Chloe, Isabelle, Noelle, Oakley, Rowan, Chamby, Baby Lou, Cody, Faith, Elizabeth, and baby Sophie; his siblings, Jack, Walter, Richard, Tex, Faye, and Mary; brother-in-law, Kenneth; sister-in-law, Leah; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

A Celebration of Sonny’s life will be announced at a later time.
