Joseph L.J. Madore
WEST BATH – Joseph Leopold Jaffrey Madore, 94, of Richmond, Maine died at home on Friday, June 5, 2015 after a long illness. His family was by his side.
Joseph was born in Biddeford, Maine on September 14, 1920 to Telesphore and Blanche (Kelly) Madore.
After graduating high school he enrolled in the Army/Air Force and served during World War II in Naples Foggia, Rome, Sicily, and Algeria French Morocco. He received a good conduct medal for the European African Middle Eastern Campaign.
Joseph returned home on September 6, 1945 to Richmond, Maine where he met Velma Berry. They married in December of that year and spent the next 66 years together until her death in 2012.
Joseph enjoyed cooking, caring for his dog “Sweet Pea,” working in the garden, and spending time with his family.
Joseph ran the family store in Bath, Maine, worked in the woods with his lifelong friend, Leland (Lee) Smith, and dug marine worms. He finally retired at the age of 86 to take care of his wife during her illness.
He was predeceased by his wife, Velma E. Madore, grandsons, Joseph Elzear “Bubby” Brillant, and James Paul McKenney, his great-great grandson, Caden James Milliano, and son-in-law, Elzear “Buddy” Brillant.
Joseph is survived by his daughters, Jo Ellen Brillant of West Bath; Vicki Pinkham and her husband Ron of Woolwich; and Penny Knight and her husband William of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Charles, Robbie, Jerrie Jo, Joseph, and Billy; great grandchildren, Megan, Chuck, Corey, Jordon, Robbie Jr, Amber, Andrew, Erica, Miranda, Josh, and John; great-great grandchildren, Savannah, Makayla, Jaimze, Nevaeh, Charleigh, and Bentley; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visiting hours or service at his request. Joseph will be buried with his wife Velma in Orchard Court Cemetery in West Bath, Maine.
