Gerald "Spike" R. Guiou
Richmond-Gerald Rellands Guiou, 89, of Richmond, died August 5, 2014 at Togus VA Hospice.
Born August 16, 1929 in Presque Isle the son of Lillian Grant Guiou and Clowes P. Guiou, the last survivor of a family of 18 siblings.
Spike was a member of the Richmond American Legion Post 132, Order of Masons, Kora Shrine, Steel Workers Union and Sportsman’s Club of Richmond.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, most outdoor activities, cooking, playing cribbage, poker and particularly activities with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Spike briefly worked with the railroad before entering the Navy at age 18. He served 5 years. Following his military service he worked a short time as a carpenter before joining the Steel Workers’ Union. He was an iron worker for 30 years.
He was predeceased by 17 siblings, wife Goldie, step-daughter Helen Sutton. Spike is survived by loving partner Dorothy Wallace of Richmond, son Keith of Richmond, step-children Gail Harrison of Lexington, KY, Gary Williams of Ashland, VA, Ernest Williams of Mystic, CT. Two grandsons, Adam Guiou of South Portland and Michael Guiou of NYC, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 12-1 pm on September 5, 2014 at Kincer Funeral Home, Richmond followed by a graveside service at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd. Augusta at 2pm.
