Bailey Island-Elaine Gordon Bride, 92, of Garrison Cove, died peacefully July 26, 2014 at her home with her family by her side.

She was born in Portland on March 25, 1922 the daughter of Carl and Elsie McGowen.

Elaine was a tenacious and forward thinking woman who raised three daughters by herself on Bailey Island.

Elaine wintered in Florida, were she loved ballroom dancing and traveling. She truly loved coming back to her summer home, reuniting with family and walking the beach on Bailey Island.

She worked at the Worumbo Mill for over 15 years and as a server in many local restaurants.

Elaine was predeceased by her parents, brothers Alan and Brian McGowen and her dear sister in-law Clara McGowen. Elaine is survived by her daughters Laurelei Johnson of Orrs Island and Florida, Leedra Southard and husband Leon of Southwest Harbor and Florida, Karlyne Helmers of Sanford, Florida, brothers Neil McGowen and wife Barbara of Glenburn, Bruce McGowen wife Sandi of Lewiston, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In Elaine’s memory donations may be made to the Orrs and Bailey Island Fire Department.
