Joan S. Fickett

Florida-Joan Silvia Fickett, 80, of Bowdoinham and Zephyrhills, Florida, died on September 5, 2013.

She was born on April 25th, 1933 the daughter of Mae Hunton and Frederick L. Hunton

Joan enjoyed Family, Friends, Cooking, Music, Dancing, Housewife, and Loving Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Our Mother dedicated her life to her children and family. She was the first one up in the morning and the last one to go to bed, always providing the best home. Memories of Joan were her remarkable strength and courage to always be available when needed. Her boys (Mike, Scott and Todd) were rambunctious, energetic fellows, always finding ways to experiment and frequently learning hard lessons with falls, bruises, stitches and broken bones. Mom was always there to wipe away the tears and help mend the wounds. Her daughter (Teri) was the apple of the family’s eyes. Being the youngest and only girl, Teri was Mom’s best friend. Mom and Teri went everywhere together. Mom was at her best cooking for family gatherings, holidays, birthdays and daily responsibilities. She frequently played the radio, sang and danced for fun and laughter. She was close to her nieces and nephews and in her early years spent much time with her sister Lillian’s children, where she spent summers in Gurnet and winters in town Brunswick. Her home in Bowdoinham was her pride and joy. She loved the beauty of the house and plenty of room for everyone. Our comical memories of Mom, was that the beds were made before we got up and her attachment to her vacuum cleaner. Mom was always needling the boys to “grow-up”; but would always laugh at our ridiculous antics. We remember Mom as a happy person, with a positive presence and a love for life.

Mom grew up in Portland, Maine and was a 1952 Graduate of Deering High School.

She worked at Bowdoinham Community School.
