David E. Crockett III

BRUNSWICK — David E. Crockett III, 78, of Brunswick died Tuesday, August 30, 2011 with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

David was born on April 9th, 1933 in Camden to David E. Crockett II and Muriel Herrick Crockett. He attended Camden and Rockport schools and graduated from Camden High School in 1951. He earned degree’s in History and Government from the University of Maine in 1955. He also attended Colby and Bowdoin College and received his Masters in Math and Science. While in college he was commissioned in the Army ROTC, and later served eight and a half years in the Army Reserve.

In 1955, he began his teaching career at New Sharon High School. He taught at Wilton Academy in 1958 where he met his wife of 51 years, Barbara Crockett. In 1963, they moved to Brunswick, and David taught at Brunswick High School until he retired in 1984. After retirement, David worked for LL Bean where he was able to share his passion of hunting, fishing and camping.

David was a life long learner and continued to take classes throughout his life. He was particularly interested in history and ancient religion. He enjoyed golf, fishing and spending time with his family.

He leaves his wife of 51 years, Barbara Babb Crockett, 2 daughters, Rebecca Launer and her husband Phil Launer, Allyson Crockett and her husband Paul Barron from Brunswick, a brother, Neil Welt and his wife Connie of Denver, CO and 3 grandchildren, Zoe Launer age11, Claire Launer age 8 and Julia Barron age 7. He will be sadly missed.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of David’s life on September 10th at 2-3:30 PM , 74 Hillside Road in Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Cancer Society.
