Ralph L. Parlett

South Gardiner – Ralph L. Parlett of Bartlett Street died of lung cancer Wednesday, Feb. 16, 20ll at home with his loving family by his side. Ralph was born in Baltimore, MD March 4, 1937 the son of Ralph and Lucy (Crane Williams) Parlett. He graduated from Howard County High School in 1955.After graduation he served in the Army and the Maryland National Guard until 1962. After the Army, he worked for the family business, Parlett Ford in Ellicott City, MD and also built houses. He graduated from the University of Maryland and began a 30 year career as an Economist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture where he rose to be a Food Price Analyst and the National Food Price Spokesman for the Department. When Ralph moved to Maine he worked for 5 years as a Tool Pro at Sears in Augusta.

In May of 1965 he married Elizabeth Foresman of McLean Virginia. They resided in Virginia for 36 years; first, in Northern Virginia and next in Northumberland County on the Chesapeake Bay. In 2000 they followed their daughter and her family to Maine, living first in Augusta and then in South Gardiner.

Ralph is survived by Elizabeth his wife of 46 years; his daughter and her husband, Elizabeth and Benjamin Scott and their three children, Nicholas, William and Margret of Dresden; and his son James R. Parlett of South Gardiner.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Ralph’s life will take place at St. Matthias’ Episcopal Church, 15 Spruce Street, Richmond, ME on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 2:00pm.
