Arthur L. Black Sr.
Augusta-Arthur L. Black, 80, of the Cony Rd. formerly of Bowdoin died on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Maine Veterans Home, Augusta.
He was born on September 27, 1929 in Bangor the son of Eugene and Emma Jean Black.
Arthur enjoyed farming, raising his pigs and rabbits. He also enjoyed going to livestock auctions. Arthur was a longtime member of Village Lodge #26 of Bowdoinham.
Arthur proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict retiring after 20 years in 1968. He later went on to work for the Civil Service for 15 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife Virginia Crocker Black, son Bruce Black, sister Thelma and brothers Phillip, Charlie, Henry and Robert. Arthur is survived by his daughter Gloria McDowell and her husband Joseph of Richmond, Arthur Jr. and his wife Gabrielle of Bowdoin, Phillip Black and wife Leeann of Old Orchard, Robert Black of Winslow, Keith Black and his wife Cathy of Bowdoin, William Black and wife Tina of Bowdoin, Rickie Black of Brunswick, sister Beverly Black of Skowhegan, brother Robie Merrill of Farmington, 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will take place on Thursday, November 5th at 1pm at the Fairview Cemetery, Farmington .
