Helen Lucy (Ireland) Cook

Richmond-Helen Cook a lifelong resident of Richmond, passed peacefully after a brief battle with cancer on July 6, 2009 at her home.

She was born in Clinton, Maine on March 11, 1926 to Fern and Arno Ireland. She was married to Eugene F. Cook, her husband of 50 years, whom predeceased her.

Helen is survived by one Son, Wayne Cook and his wife Katherine, of Alexandria, VA. , A Grandson Alan Cook and significant other Suellen Butterfield of Standish, Maine and Granddaughter Vicki Lyman, of Skowhegan, Maine. She is also survived by three Great-grandchildren, Victoria Cook, Benjamin Lyman and Emily Lyman. She is also survived by a brother, Lloyd Ireland, and his wife, Vivian. Helen is also survived by several nephews and a niece.

Helen had a professional career with Etonic Shoe Company (Charles Eaton Shoe of Brockton Mass.) in Richmond, Maine for many years - where she was chief expeditor for the company. She enjoyed this career immensely and made many lasting friends in doing so, one of those friends, Marylou Galloway of Dresden, Maine was with her to the end.

Mrs. Cook enjoyed her gardens and flowers, also enjoyed traveling to various places in the United States, with her husband Gene. They were both very active for a period of about 10 years in antiques and the refinishing of the same. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, July 9th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 10th at 11am at Kincer Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Wally Staples of Wiscasset Church of the Nazarene. Helen met Rev. Wally though MaryLou Galloway and they both became close near the end of her life. He gave her a lot of comfort in her time of need.

Burial will immediately follow the services at the family plot in Evergreen Cemetery, Alexander Road, Richmond Maine.
