Charles C. Hinkley
Dresden – Charles C. Hinkley, 76, passed away on March 7, 2009 at his home from complications of leukemia with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Richmond on January 6, 1933, the son of Clinton W. and Evelyn B. (Smith) Hinkley.
Charlie attended Richmond Schools and served honorably in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force for 16 years. After his military service, he lived in Texas for several years before returning to Maine. Charles was an accomplished carpenter and home builder among several other vocations.
He enjoyed all types of sports and was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers. Charlie also enjoyed country & western music and loved to dance. He also loved spending time with family and friends.
Charles was predeceased by his parents and daughter, Shauna and her husband, Kurt Jacobson, of Austin, TX.
Charles is survived by his loving companion, Linda Merriam, of Dresden; two sons, Dr. Charles C. Hinkley and his wife, Suzannah, of New Braunsfels, TX, and Warner R. Hinkley and his wife, Ann, of Bath; two daughters, Sandie and Yolanda Hinkley, both of Texas; four grand-sons, Brett, Kieantae, Kirk, and Edward; three grand-daughters, Hannah, Chelsea, Lindsey; one great grand-daughter in Austin, TX; two brothers, Gilman Hinkley and wife Maxine of Richmond and Sherwood Hinkley and wife, Mary, of Apopka, FL; six sisters, Marilyn Pinkham of West Gardiner; Emelene Fickett and husband, Charles, of Farmingdale; Marita Miller of Boothbay Harbor; Betty Roy of North Adams, MA; Cleo Chancellor and husband, Norman, of Richmond; and Dolores Emmons of Topsham. Also surviving are many nephews, nieces and cousins and special friends, Paul and Donna Bergeron, and Aaron and Mary Garate.
The family expresses their gratitude to Hospice and HealthReach, especially Katherine Bryant and Laurie Harris, for their loving care.
A graveside service will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery, Alexander Reed Road, Richmond, in the spring per Charles’ wishes.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles name to Hospice or the charity of your choice.
