Roland W. Alexander

South Gardiner-ROLAND WASHBURN ALEXANDER, 92,of River Ave. Lost his battle with cancer on Dec. 26. 2008 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta.

He was born March 12, 1916 in Richmond, Maine, the son of George Alvah Alexander and Cordelia “Mae” (Beedle) Alexander.

He married his childhood sweetheart, Marion B. Trott, on December 31, 1937 in South Gardiner, Maine. They made their home in South Gardiner for their 68 years of married life. Marion predeceased Roland on Dec. 25, 2005.

Roland was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Alvah B. Alexander; a sister, Marie Moulton; a brother, Jay S. Alexander; a brother, Bernard C. Alexander.

He was educated at number 5 school on the Beedle Road and graduated from Richmond High School in 1935. At the Richmond Alumni dinner in July of 2008, he was the oldest graduate.

He was a member of Riverview Congregational Church in South Gardiner. He was a sixty five year member of the Hermon Lodge #32 in Gaxdiner. '

He retired from Bath Iron Works in 1980.

He is survived by a daughter, Gail Hanson and her husband, William of Cranston, Rhode Island; a son, Gary T. Alexander and his wife, Donna of Augusta, Maine; a daughter, Ann A. Stinson and her husband, Keith of Richmond, Maine; two sister-in-laws, Mildred Gay and her husband, Warren Gay and Bertha Taylor; ten grandchildren; Laurie Hanson Roberts, Todd Hanson, Richard Hanson, Troy Alexander, Tammy Alexander Roberts, Karen Stinson, Marion Stinson Sullivan, Rachel Stinson Domin, Leanna. Stinson Kiesow and Marlena Stinson Boron; three step-grand children; Hiedi Mayorga, Alexis Estrada, Marvin Estrada (step children of Todd Hanson); fourteen great grand children; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to express their gratitude for all the care given by Hospice caregivers, especially to his Hospice nurse, Lori Harris; a special gratitude to Dr. Keating for his exceptional care beyond our expectations to our father; a special heartfelt thanks to his caregiver, Jill Stinson.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 1 to 2pm on Monday, December 29th with a Masonic Service to follow. A funeral service will take place at 2pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the spring. A reception will take place after the service at the Dresden Richmond United Methodist Church, Richmond.
