Charles B. Ayer
Charles Brenton Ayer passed on Thursday January 17th from complications of cancer. Charlie passed away peacefully at home with his family and friends by his side. His final view from his comfortable sunroom was of his much beloved Kennebec River that had been his favorite spot since childhood.
Charlie was born on March 17th 1945 in Bath Maine to Brenton Emerson Ayer and Julia Patten Cole Ayer.
He graduated from Morse High School in 1964. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and was discharged in 1968. He served on Coast Guard vessels and was later stationed at Southwest Harbor Maine. He was a medical corpsmen.
After his discharge he attended Beal College in Bangor for a period of time and then returned to Bath where he worked briefly At Bath Iron Works and then as a surveyor for the State of Maine. He and his Dad also had an eel business for a period of time.
Charlie was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed trips with his wife Sue and taking his family for boat rides. He also loved spending time at his hunting camp in Woolwich.
Charlie is survived by his wife Susan Ayer, formally Susan Brown of Camden Maine. His daughter and son-in-law Heidi and Maarten Zwaan of Phippsburg and their children Anthony, Ethan, Cody and Owen. His sister and husband Marilyn and Adriel Mason of Arizona and their children Julie Moore and Angela Espinoza and their families.
He also is survived by three stepchildren and families. Lance Graney, Leila his wife and children, Leilian, Alden and Dylan of New Jersey. Brant Dadaleares of No. Windham Maine and Todd Dadaleares and his wife Nancy and son Uther of Portland Maine.
There will be a celebration of life and his homecoming to the Lord at the Bath Senior Citizens Center on Saturday January 26, 2008 at 2:00 PM.
