Mae Jeannette “Jean” Van Dyke
Bath- M. Jean Van Dyke, 92, of Governors Way in Topsham passed away on Friday, Novmeber 23, 2007 at the Hill House in Bath.
She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 15, 1915 the daughter of John and Jennie (Johnson) Wahlberg.
Jean was a graduate of the University of Minnesota receiving her degree in nursing.
She married Karl Van Dyke, Jr. in 1942 in Denver, Colorado and later would live in Indiana, Oklahoma, Texas and New York before retiring in Maine in 1981.
She had a career in the airline industry where she was employed as a Chief Stewardess for American Airlines, started the stewardess training school for Continental Airlines, and ended her flying career as a stewardess with Northwest Airlines.
Jean was a dedicated housewife and mother. She was active in the Glen Head (New York) Gospel meeting House and with the Springhill Gospel Chapel in Westbrook.
Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband Karl and four sisters.
She is survived by her daughter M. Kristen Johnson and husband Richard of New Hampshire, John S. Van Dyke and wife Nancy of Edgecomb, James A. Van Dyke of Nobleboro, 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 2nd at 3pm at St. Andrews Episcopal Church on Glidden St. in Newcastle.
