Litchfield-Ruby, our dear "Nana", 94, passed away Sunday, Aug 19, 2007, at Marshwood Nursing Home in Lewiston, with her family at her side.

She was born in West Gardiner, Maine on March 16, 1913, the daughter of Harry and Alice (Brackett) Hinkley .

She married Charles Doyle MacWhinnie in West Gardiner on August 29, 1934. Together they had 6 children of whom 2 survive them, Esther (Roscoe) Slattery and Roger (Betty) MacWhinnie both of Litchfield. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Brian Slattery of Hampton, NH; Kevin Slattery of Rochester, NH and his sons Jason and Justin; Shawn Slattery of Nottingham, NH and his sons Brendan and Connor; Elley (Mark) Merrifield and their daughter Ariana of Litchfield; and Kelley MacWhinnie and daughter Shantal of Lisbon Falls also a son-in-law, George Gousse, of Manchester.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1977, and four of their children: David in 1935, Russell in 1944, Charles, Jr. in 1957 and Charlene Gousse in 1999, Brothers; Harold, Clifford and Perley Hinkley, and sisters; Edith Eaton, Thelma Furlong, Esther Smith and Ruth Norton.

Ruby and Doyle moved from Litchfield to Rockland in 1965 and remained their until his death.

Ruby worked as a personal caregiver for many years following her husband's death, in Rockland, Litchfield, Monmouth, and Bowdoinham, finally retiring at 89 years old to live with her daughter Esther and "Red". "Nana" is fondly remembered as loving and caregiving to all who knew her.

Ruby was a life member of Mystic Chapter # 69 O.E.S in Litchfield.

Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 on Thursday, August 23rd with an Eastern Star Memorial Service at 6:30 at Kincer Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on Friday, August 24th at 1pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the family plot in the Litchfield Plains Cemetery.
