Harpswell- Elizabeth W. Hentz, 95, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, at the Vicarage By The Sea in Harpswell.
She was born in Woburn, MA on Nov. 13, 1911, a daughter of Walter and Jesse West. Betty attended Woburn Schools and later graduated from Framingham State College majoring in diet and nutrition. Her husband Gordon was an executive there; they met, and were married in May of 1937.
They lived in Ohio and Massachusetts where she was active in local churches.
The two moved to Harpswell in 1970. She was an active member of the Kellogg Church and enjoyed many activities including gardening and cooking.
She moved to Thornton Oaks in Brunswick with her husband in 1994. They were happy together there until his passing in 1999.
Her health declined in 2004 and she went to the Vicarage By The Sea in 2005 where she was very happy for her remaining days.
Her warm smile and gentle ways affected many who met her.
She was the beloved mother of daughter Jane Hentz of Coventry, RI, son James Hentz of Brunswick, ME, and grandmother of granddaughters Laura Bean and Amy Mocarshy of R.I.
