Roger “Ozzie” S. Gibbs

Richmond-Roger S. Gibbs, 78, of Main St. passed away unexpectedly Thursday, August 24, 2006 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta.

He was born on August 23, 1928 in Wiscasset the son of George and Mary (Stewart) Gibbs.

Roger attended Richmond Schools. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy during WW II. Upon returning to Maine he worked as a Millwright Supervisor for Ames Textile in Richmond, S.D. Warren Co. in Gardiner, and Scott Paper in Westbrook, where he retired in 1983.

Ozzie was a member of the American Legion Post 132 and past member of the Masons. He was a selectman for the town of Richmond and a Boy Scout Leader. He also served on the School Board and Utilities committees.

Ozzie was an avid Bowler, Snowmobiler, Hunter and Boater. He owned a camp on Aziscohos Lake in Rangeley.

Roger was predeceased by his parents, beloved wife Rowena B. Gibbs and daughter Mary F. Gibbs. He is survived by his son’s Roger P. Gibbs and wife Denise of Richmond, Peter J Gibbs and companion Nancy Fortin of Richmond, Georgia D. Hamlin and husband Orris of West Gardiner, brothers George Stewart of N.C., Robert Gibbs of Florida, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, August 27th from 12 to 3pm at Kincer Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place on Monday, August 28th at 2pm at Richmond Cemetery with Military Honors.
