Robert P. Obrien
Richmond-Robert Percy O’Brien, 65, resident of Kimball St. died February 24, 2006 in Poland, ME from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He was the beloved husband of Ann O’Brien and devoted father to Meghan O’Brien.
He was born in Waterville on January 24, 1941 the son of Roberta Hackett and Percy O’Brien. Bob attended schools in Waterville, ME and Media, PA.
Bob was known for his culinary skills and often acted as caterer for friends and family. He was a charter member of the Augusta Harley Owners Group (HOG) and served as Director for two terms. Bob was also a member of the American Legion, the Long Beach, CA Masons, and San Diego Police Reserve. He was an avid participant in drag racing.
Bob retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in 1977, including three tours in Vietnam. Following the Navy, he continued his education at University Maine in Augusta and was a Veterans Caseworker for Senator W. Cohen. After graduation he worked as a Quality Assurance Department Project Engineer for Bath Iron Works where he was assigned to the China Shipbuilding Program in Taiwan, where the family lived for three years. When Bob retired from BIW he worked seasonally at L.L.Bean for four years followed by Dumont Engineered Systems in Monmouth. Bob was currently working for Perry Johnson Registrars, of Michigan, as an ISO Auditor.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, sister Marilyn, first wife Peggy Winzenreid in 1969, and sons Bobby and Danny. He is survived by his wife of twenty-eight years, Ann O’Brien, of Richmond, ME; and children Meghan O’Brien, of Portland, ME; Jennifer O’Brien Maharrey and son-in-law Dave and grandchildren Allison and Matthew all of Royal Palm Beach, FL; Becky O’Brien and partner Shirley Coleman of Surprise, AZ; Valarie O’Brien of Wilmington, DE; Sherry O’Brien Mullen of Laurel, DE; two sisters, Patricia O’Brien Van Orman and brother-in-law Fred Van Orman of West Gardiner, ME and Roberta (Honey) O’Brien Moore and brother-in-law Bill Moore of San Antonio, TX; and in-laws Peggy and Jed Dutton of Vineland, NJ; Betty Kay and Tom Bell of Moorestown, NJ; and Bobby and Mary Williams of Marietta, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and Friends may call from 4-8pm at Kincer Funeral Home 130 Pleasant St. Richmond on Wednesday, March 1. Burial will take place on Thursday, March 2nd at 1pm at the New Maine Veterans Cemetery Mount Vernon Rd. Augusta with full military Honors.
