David M. Gilman
Randolph – David M. Gilman passed on September 12, 2024 the son of J. Frank and Dorothy H. (Robinson) Gilman.
David was a lifelong Maine resident born August 3, 1937 in Gardiner and grew up with his family in Randolph with four beloved siblings Richard, Donald, Robert, and Margaret (Peggy). David attended local primary and grammar schools, and after graduating from Gardiner High School in 1955, enlisted and served his country in the US Air Force attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his time in service he was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming where he met his devoted and loving wife of 64 years, Marjorie (German). After leaving the service, David went to work for Central Maine Power Company, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 1995.
In his lifetime David was committed to his community serving on the Randolph Planning Board, as a Gardiner Water District trustee, and member of Randolph United Methodist church where he served on various committees. Each year David looked forward to the Windsor Fair where he worked in the treasurer’s office for 20 years with one of his dearest friends (Jim Tracy) along with many of the fine devoted people which make that fair a successful tradition.
David enjoyed all family activities including coaching his two sons, Douglas and Darrell and the numerous family camping trips. David was a very active and devoted husband and father with many hobbies and outdoor activities, who especially enjoyed a good Saturday evening dinner and card game with special friends. All these activities enriched his life through great friendships and memories which David always relished. His sons and his family were his most cherished life blessing. David had a long list of beloved canine companions over the years which he loved each one uniquely and dearly. After retirement, he enjoyed carrying on the camping tradition with his 4 grandchildren.
David was predeceased by his parents and brothers Robert, Richard, Donald (June), and sister Peggy.
He is survived by wife Marjorie, son Douglas (Maryann), son Darrell (Deseree), 2 grandsons Eben (Emily), Matthew (Brandi) and 2 granddaughters Hilary (Travis), Heather, 4 great grandchildren Mason, Lucy, Cy, Ellie, niece Cynthia Gilman and nephew Kenneth Gilman.
The family wishes to thank Togus VA, Beacon Hospice, Maine General Medical Center 2nd floor West Wing for his care, and the very special neighbors and friends for their enduring love and support.
A graveside service will be held Sept. 25th at 11:00am at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Gardiner, Maine. A gathering of family and friends will be announced following the service. In memory of David, donations can be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The graveside service and arrangements are being managed by Kincer Funeral Home, Richmond, Maine.
