Martha G. Stanton
RICHMOND - Martha Grace Stanton (McMahon), also known as Greeneyes, Mable, Mert, and Ma passed away quietly in her home on the evening of December 22, 2015 at the age of 65. Martha was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on October 22, 1950, the only daughter of John and Grace (Emmons) McMahon.
A second mom to many, Ma was easy to talk to, open minded, generous, kind, humble, and forgiving. A free spirit who encouraged those around her to “keep the faith,” do right by others, and be true to themselves. Greeneyes was forever an optimist, and it is truly remarkable and admirable how she kept smiling though the debilitating pain she felt for years. She was a beautiful soul who never complained or took her frustration out on others.
Mable came to Maine in her early twenties to find out what was keeping her dear friend Al here. Although she was proud to be from Brooklyn, she quickly discovered that she would rather be lost in the woods, than found in the city. In her younger years, Martha loved taking trips to her Uncle Leland’s Farm, running, horseback riding, and listening to her brothers sing a cappella on the streets of New York. Mert enjoyed photography, concerts, old records, camping at Beaver Brook, picnics in Hobbit Land, gardening, ice cream breaks, and relaxing with friends and family.
Predeceased by her parents, twin brother Paul, older brothers Dennis and Mickey, former husband Roger Stanton, and many friends and family members along the way. Martha is survived by daughter Kelly McMahon, son Jasper Barber, and granddaughters Jayden and Maya Barber. We will miss you every day, but shall find comfort in knowing that you are with us all the way. Love you more MeeMee.
A celebration of life was held on January 9, 2016 at Kincer Funeral Home in Richmond, Maine. If you wish to make a contribution in memory of Martha, please support Seeds of Independence in Brunswick, Maine.
