Bowdoinham-Chester Dean, 99, died on September 26, 2019 in Brunswick.
Chester was born in Bath on April 30, 1920, the son of Walter and Lucie (Blethen) Dean. He went to school in Bath and Bowdoinham.
Chester entered military service in the US Army on Oct. 3, 1944. He was in the 101st Airborne during WWII. After he went to Paratrooper school, he was stationed in the Philippines, and was a truck driver in Company B 79th Engineer Construction Battalion.
After his military service, Chester worked as a truck driver for St Johnsbury and Crooker. He was a Duck Hunting Guide in Merry-meeting Bay, and for many years he was a reserve officer with Topsham PD. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, American Legion (Richmond Post), volunteered with the Bowdoinham Fire department, was a Selectman for Bowdoinham and for a couple of years held the Boston Post Cane because he was the oldest person in the Town of Bowdoinham.
Chester enjoyed hunting, fishing, had his Cub pilot license, and loved caring for his animals. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Chester was predeceased by his daughter Betty Davis, and his sons Pvt. Donald Dean, and Harry Dean.
He is survived by his wife of many years Esther Dean, his daughters Jewel Temple and her husband Calvin, Melody Hanson and her husband Bruce; a son; Kenneth Dean of New Hampshire, grandchildren Adam Temple, Aaron Temple, Jennifer Hanson, Mathew Hanson and, numerous other grandchildren and great grandchildren.
There will be a burial, with military honors, at 1pm on Friday, October 18th at Bay-view Cemetery in Bowdoinham.
