Diana lived most of her life in Bath but resided and was cared for by her sister, Jackie and family, the last few months of her life. She was born in Dresden, Maine, daughter of Jesse and Jean James on November 26, 1937. Diana attended schools in Dresden and moved to Bath after she married.
While raising her family, Diana worked for the Bath School Department. She moved to New York in 1980 and worked at West Point Military Academy but returned to Maine in 1985 and worked at Bath Iron Works in the engineering department as a technical clerk until retiring in 2003.
Diana was an avid softball player in the 70s and was a star first baseman for Dana’s Ladies in the Women’s Softball League in Brunswick. Despite being the oldest player on the team, she played like she was the youngest with a great glove and a smooth swing.
Diana loved to yard sale and always enjoyed getting a good deal along with picking up fine items for her home and family. She loved her Saturday outings which included stops at local thrift stores, Walmart and TJ Maxx. She picked knitting up in her later years and was very crafty in making gifts for her family.
She enjoyed socializing at happy hour on Friday nights with her family and friends. Her favorite drink was a rum and coke with a twist of lime.
Diana’s cooking was greatly appreciated by all that knew her. She would prepare a feast with a wide array of food at all family gatherings. She truly enjoyed hosting 4th of July lunch after the parade and Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.
Diana, known as Nana to the grandchildren, and Nanny to the great-grandchildren, had a deep love for all of them and enjoyed their visits with her.
