Carl H. Beckim Sr.

Carl Beckim SrRICHMOND - Carl H. Beckim Sr., 80, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday September 29, 2015, surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with dementia.

Carl was born in Augusta, ME on October 15, 1934 to William and Winnifred Beckim. He graduated Cony High school in 1950, soon after that he found the love of his life Andree Beckim and they were married in 1953.  They then had seven loving children. He played basketball for church leagues and softball for Augusta league. He was a great man who took very good care of his family. He was a loyal pipefitter for the union #716. He also was a Shriner and a member of the Masons. He retired from the pipefitter union in 1999.

He loved to watch his children and grandchildren play sports. The town of Richmond hardly had a game without him running up the field yelling to one of his family members playing. He enjoyed the simple things in life; he loved to go out to breakfast and play bingo with all his bingo friends. He was always a phone call away for anyone who needed him. He helped raise so many of his grandchildren.

Carl was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Donald Beckim, Robert Beckim, and Lewis Beckim, and his sisters, Rita Dostie, Virginia Fontaine, and Leona Holbrook.  Surviving siblings are Paul Beckim, William Beckim, Russel Beckim, and Helen Joslyn.
Carl is survived by his daughters, Pamela Beckim, Laurie Dyer and her husband Hugh Dyer, Carlene Beckim, Jeanie Breton and husband Jeff Breton, and the baby Betty Carver; his sons, Carl Beckim Jr. and Timothy Beckim. He adored his 22 grandchildren, and 27 and counting great grandchildren.

Carl was a very calm loving soul with a big heart.  His ability to make people laugh and his constant joking led him to have many friends over the years.  No one had a bad thing to say about this man. Even as his disease progressed his loving heart and gentle spirit never faltered. His family worked hard to care for him and make his last wish to be home with family a reality. To that they have a lot of thanks to meme (Wanda French) and a lot of family members, and a special thanks to Maine General Hospital, Maine General Hospice. Thank you all for making that wish a reality. We love you.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Visitation that will take place on Friday, October 2, 2015 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Kincer Funeral Home, 130 Pleasant St., Richmond, ME.  A Celebration of Carl’s Life will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at his home at 282 Brown Road in Richmond.
