Mary Bugenske

Bowdoinham-Mary (Turner) Bugenske died peacefully in her home on August 30, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born Mary Dorothea Turner in Biddeford, Maine, on July 4, 1937, to the late Lloyd Haswell Turner and the late Florence Evelyn d’Anjou (neé). She grew up, the oldest of four children, in Pine Point, Maine, where her love of the ocean and beaches was at the core of who she was. She and her husband Ronald raised their own three children with that same appreciation for the beauty of the ocean, beaches and marshes along the Maine coast.

Mary was the matriarch of a large family who dedicated her life to her home, her husband, her children and her grandchildren. She had a deep love of nature and animals and throughout her life derived great joy from her gardens and from the hundreds of birds that came to her yard all year long to be nourished at her many feeders. She was a woman of faith, with a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother.

Mary is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ronald Bugenske; her sister, Jill Florence Turner of Atlanta, GA; her three children -- Tamara Mary Bugenske of Saco, ME, Theresa Marie Bugenske of Old Orchard Beach, ME, and Lloyd Paul “Jack” Bugenske of Gray, ME; and her loving grandchildren -- Sarah Pooler of Litchfield, ME, Casey Pooler of Hampton NH, Marc Martin and Mary Martin of Saco, ME, and Cynthia Bugenske and Joseph Bugenske of Gray, ME. Mary was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Turner Freese, and a brother, Lloyd Haswell “Jack”
Turner Jr. of Portland, ME.

Mary’s family would like to acknowledge with deep gratitude the care and support given her by Crystal Austin RN and the hospice team at CHANS of Brunswick, Maine, who brought her laughter and love during her illness and great comfort to the Bugenske family.

A funeral mass in celebration of Mary’s life will be held at St.
Ambrose Church in Richmond, ME, on Thursday, September 10, at 10:00
a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Mary’s memory may be
made to the Androscoggin Humane Society, Auburn, ME.
