Christopher A. Small

smallChristopher Anthony Small passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 4, 2016. He was born July 23, 1988 in Aurora Colorado to Cathy Ann Spaulding Small and Mark Matthew Small. Christopher attended Bath Schools and graduated Morse High School in 2008. He was an exceptional athlete participating in baseball, basketball and lacrosse.

In 2008 Christopher joined the Air Force spending 15 months with the 65th Security Forces Squadron at Lajes Air Field, Portugal. After returning stateside he spent the remainder of his military career with the 72nd Security Forces Squadron at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma. In 2011 Christopher deployed to Ali Al Salem Air base in Kuwait where he spent 6 months providing security details. March 2014, Christopher was honorably separated from the military earning the AF Good Conduct Medal, National Service Defense Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, AF Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, AF Longevity Service, and AF Training Ribbon.

Christopher loved the outdoors spending most of his time fishing and exploring new places. He dearly loved his family and spending time outdoors with them hiking, fishing and skiing. He was dedicated to honoring the memory of his younger brother, Alexander Small, spending many hours gardening in Alex’s memorial garden and traveling the country finding new beautiful places Alex would have loved to see.

Christopher had a big heart whether it be rescuing homeless animals or helping someone less fortunate. He found joy in helping others by making their lives a little better. Christopher will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Christopher is survived by his mother Cathy Small, and step-father Craig Gorman of Richmond; Father Mark Small and stepmother Kristina Small of Richmond; brothers Nick Small, and Isaac Cappen; sister Keedra Cappen; stepbrothers Arleigh and Jordan Buzzell, Casey Gorman; step-sister Savonne Buzzell; paternal grandparents Ronn and Jacquelyn Young; maternal grandparents John and Lydia Spaulding; many beloved Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and dear friends. He was predeceased by his younger brother Alex Small.

A military service will be held at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery 163 Mount Vernon Rd, Augusta (NOT Mount Vernon Ave) on Wednesday November 16th at 12:00 PM. A gathering and refreshments immediately following at the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, 205 Church Hill Rd, Augusta.
